2006 Coverart
June 5, 2006, 2006 | posted by Chris
I've finished coverart for 5/30/06, the first show of the tour. You can track the progress of this tour's artwork on the 2006 Coverart thread, and as I continue to go through 2005's art requests, you can track those on the 2005 Coverart thread.
Also! I am looking for YOUR PHOTOS from shows (of the band), to use for coverart. You will be given credit on the back, however you wish. Anyone interested can reach me via chris@amidreaming.org. The shows that I get photos for will take priority in my list for artwork ;)
Finally- why have I started 2006 artwork when art for 2005 is far from finished? Well, I figure at this point it's better to do the current tour while the shows are fresh and being downloaded/burned... at this point, most people have their 2005 shows tucked away, etc and the immediate enthusiasm is now on the current tour. I WILL continue with the 2005 requests, but on-and-off in balance with 2006 and with a number of dvd menues and covers from a few different years (7/9 & 10/05 Mansfield, MA among them). Stay tuned!
New Wallpaper & Coverart
May 14, 2006 | posted by Chris
The newest additions to the 2005 CD coverart collection are 7/9 and 7/10/05, from Mansfield, MA. You can discuss these covers HERE. This show is especially note-worthy with the legendary (and near-perfect rendition of) "#34" return. In this spirit, the wallpaper of the month is a collage of photos from that night. JTR has already re-surfaced so far this year... and with the guarantee of new songs to be road tested (and who knows what other lost-songs to return), we can only look forward to see what else the 2006 tour has in store!
NOTE: Users with widescreens can download a 1920x1200 version, above!
non DMB art (!?!?!)
April 18, 2006 | posted by Chris
Believe it or not, i have actually done some non-DMB art too... I was recently asked if this was in fact that case, and if there was any proof of it. The nerve! So anyway, for those interested, here are a few things:
(The high-res of the dvd coverart can be found HERE).
That said, I'm sure the majority of you probably don't care... after all, this is "DMB ART.com" and not "non dmbart.com" - for you folks, here's a recent addition to the 2005 coverart gallery:
Rochester 2005 DVD Art
April 8, 2006 | posted by Chris

Just completed DVD Artwork for this show, complimenting the CD Artwork I finished earlier this week. You can view it HERE.
Anyone interested in obtaining the show should create an "ISO" thread in our Taping & Trading forum.
Just a note for new users to the site: This isn't official artwork for any sort of official release- these are for cd's and dvd's recorded by other fans. I just design art for fun, and for AMI users to use- enjoy!
Stand Up conceptual art
April 7, 2006 | posted by Chris

(Link below)
Most of the regular users on the site know that Noel and I were approached last year (just after New Years) to work on some concepts for Stand Up artwork.
At the time, the band was still in the studio and working on what we were told was "a new, more worldly sound." They wanted to rework ("re-invent") their firedancer in a way that was more refined, showed more maturity... and moved away from their "hippie association/image."
They also spoke of a "more urban feel," and we were told that they liked this A Perfect Circle album cover, and the chrome on the T2 logo... other than that, they seemed interested in seeing what we came up with.
My artwork in general has taken a more "urban" and "organic" turn, so that was where I started. Anyway, I went through a BROAD range of ideas and directions... I mean hey- this is freakin' DMB- up until this point, I hadn't had the chance to quench my ambition to do design work for them (hence the galleries of artwork for "fun" that fill this site). So after hours and hours of work, we submitted a series of designs and what I call "teaser ads" - images I included, to show possible promotional application and usage of MY designs in format that would demonstrate their usability.
In the end, while they decided to go with their own designer's plain-chrome texture and go back to the Original firedancer form (the actual Stand Up cover), I got some great portfolio work out of it and had some fun. We even got invited down to the band's first listening/preview party in C-ville, held to let family, friends, crew and people who worked on it, get a first listen- that in itself was well worth the stress and pressure endured during the concept-design process.
Anyway- feel free to take a look at some of the highlights of the work... head over to my portfolio site- www.chrispetescia.com and click "DOWNLOAD SAMPLE PORTFOLIO" to open a mini-PDF of work!
Oh- and one more note: At the time we did this, they did not have a name for the album yet... we only knew it was their 7th album (counting Remember 2 Things) and it would be out in Spring '05.
2005 Winter coverart coming up!.
April 6, 2006 | posted by Chris
Turns out I can keep a promise after all- just finished the first of a series of requests made by AMI users, for the winter tour.
You can check out artwork for Rochester - Blue Cross Arena, 12/7/05 HERE. There are two slight varriations to the cover available, and as always, the high-resolution copy in a .zip file. Enjoy and stay tuned!
I Suck, I know.
April 4, 2006 | posted by Chris
I just wanted to apologize for the lack of art so far this year. It's been a busy time for me with my job and side work, and I honestly have not had time to do much else. Just for the hell of it, I've created an alternate version of the winter firedancer I did... with a shade more suitable for spring/summer. I will do my best to get back on track with coverart for the '05 tour, soon!
Winter's cool...
November 25, 2005 | posted by Chris
I know I am a few days early... but I figured since the tour starts tomorrow, now would be a good time to post this. Originally I designed this for the band to (hopefully) sell as posters this tour, but unfortuntaely neither merch. folks nor management seems to have had any interest. Oh, well- their loss is your gain, right? I liked it too much to not have people see it, so I hope you'll enjoy it on your desktop instead of on your wall. If the winter tour posters suck, you'll know you coulda had better ;).
Oh, and this will probably be the last of the firedancer-themed wallpapers for a while... I think I have done them to death.
2005 Coverart Update
November 20, 2005 | posted by Chris
Just wanted to post an update- there is a 2005 Coverart thread in our graphics & artwork forum. Here, users can keep track of my progress through the 2005 summer tour's coverart & stomps. You can also request dates for which you would like art made. Unfortunately, I may not have time to do the entire tour like I have past tours (as the reality of making a living & the requirements personal financing set in); however, I will do as many as I can, in the order in which they are requested.
Also, high-res versions of all my coverart will be available to download in .zip format. These can also be found in the thread mentioned above. So far, artwork for the following 2005 shows have been completed:
June 4th & 5th (Burgettstown), June 10th (Bonnaroo), and September 9th, 10th, 11th & 12th (Red Rocks).
Please feel free to request a date if it is not already on the list, or send me an Email or a private message (you must be logged in). Thanks!

Everybody Wakeup! You'd be hard-pressed to debate the meaning of this song, from an admitted politcally-spoken album. Bush fans, nothing personal... Everyone else, enjoy. It is October's wallpaper in honor of its live debut (finally!) in September, and because Dave's lyrics were inspired by the electoral events around this time, a year ago.
To see close-ups from the high-res version, or to see if you can spot some of the little subtleties I placed in it, check out the thread below. Rock it!

I have received multiple PM's and Emails about this, so I figured I would make a news post-
*** YES, the 2005 coverart is coming *** I am in the process of building a design and marketing company with some friends, which takes more time than I imagined... basically I am realizing that the 8 hour workday isnt realistic with this sort of endevour. Anyway, for this year's coverart, I have a pretty cool look in mind, and will get started as soon as I can!
Also, I figured I would share some of my artwork that we were lucky enough to get signed at Mansfield yesterday (by Carter). Click here to check it out, or check out the whole story and mini-show review here:

The Month of Stand Up
May 2, 2005 | posted by Chris
This month's wallpaper is (hopefully) only temporary. It was pretty hastily constructed and is only being used in place of a few wallpapers that I have in the works. THis month, aside from being the release of the new album, "standup," is also graduation for me- so between final projects, packing up, and only a few weeks left to eat drink and be merry- college style.... everything else is temporarily taking the back seat. However, as mentioned, there are some great wallpapers in the works including themes for two of the new songs.
Artistic talent runs in the "family"
April 27, 2005 | posted by Chris
My roommate for the past four years of college, Jake Donnadee, has watched the premiere and continual evolution of this site, to where it is today. after all of this time, I finally got him to create a piece for me- and it didn't dissapoint. Jake is an industrial designer graduating this semester from RIT, but has a range of talents including illustration and scratchboard work. This piece has logged easily 15 hours over the course of a few months, in his free time, and was definitely worth the wait. Unfortunately, there is no way in hell that I am selling it, because it is way too nice to ever part with- so this is just to give a little plug to him, to let people know about an awesome new piece in our Drawings & Sketches Gallery, and of course to make you jealous. (sorry). For a closer look at a section of this piece, please click here.
I am always amazed at the varriety of people who visit this site; so if anyone here now is interested in some fresh talent in the industrial design field, Jake can be reached via email. Feel free to check out his online, micro-portfolio.
Original Art for sale!
April 19, 2005 | posted by Chris
As many of you know, Gina Lizza is one of the most talented and most contributing artists to this website. She was one of the first to submit artwork to the old DMBart.com nearly four years ago now, and with her continued additions to our freehand galleries I have watched, in amazement, as her talent has exploded. With each new piece, she seems to miraculously outdue her last.
Unfortunately there comes a time in a college student's life- and many times, if you're an art student, I've learned- when you make the decision to part with some of your beloved work so that you can afford things like... food, and of coruse more art supplies. So, on Gina's behalf- I am asking that any fans of her work consider taking advantage of this rare opportunity to own an original. If you are not familiar with Gina's work, now is the time to become so- check out her drawings and paintings in our galleries (her username is: dmbgal07). Also, please check out her website and feel free to email her.
The link below will take you to a list of the artwork she is selling... don't miss out!!

My yellow flame, she dances...
April 2, 2005 | posted by Chris
As part of some early concept work... for this band that i doubt any of you have heard of... I created this photo-form rendering of the firedancer. I have decided to share this portion of my work, as I am fairly certain that there are no plans for it to be used. Keeping in mind the problems that the typical situation wallpaper caused in the past, there are both female and "gender neutral" versions available for download.

"...That we had danced so long ago." Well, a year to be exact. I'm heading back to Marco Island, Florida for spring break again, on Friday. Since I will be gone for over a week I figured I would post this early. I had a lot of fun making an illustrative collage of "The Song that Jane Likes" for March's Wallpaper. I think the type styles and ornaments, and perhaps even the colors of the piece sorta match the light and.... whatever it is- the slightly eccentric and whimsical feel?- of the song. Enjoy :)

Showing some love for your favorite member of DMB
February 1, 2005 | posted by Chris
Inspired by a recent request in our Graphics & Artwork forum (and wanting a change of pace for this month's wallpaper), I decided to do a few quick wallpapers for this month for each band member, using a few vintage images. Nothing complicated, just an opportunity to download a full screen image of your favorite DMB musician (there are two varriations for both Dave & Stefan), or cycle through them all throughout the month. Enjoy!
Happy New Year!
December 31, 2004 | posted by Chris
Welcome to 2005! We have alot in store for the AmIDreaming.org community this coming year, so be sure to stay tuned. We are hoping to take the site to a level that surpasses all expectations, and maybe even breaks new ground for design and art in general.... who knows? ;)
Anyway, to kick off the new year, the January wallpaper is The Stone. Taking yet another different approach for this one, the impressionistic, yelling Dave Matthews (hopefully) captured a bit of the mood of the song. Also, I'd like to think that there is an underlying theme to this song- a bit of hope for the future- that we get a peak at during the chorus. A brand new year is a perfect opportunity to burry the past and leave it behind you. For this wallpaper, you can choose from the two varriations below- hope you enjoy! To send feedback, post your thoughts or just email/pm me.
Merry Christmas!

Everybody's NOT happy...
November 2, 2004 | posted by Chris
To clear up the issue of "naked dave" in this month's Typical Situation wallpaper, I'd like to start by saying that is NOT really Dave's body. No offense to Dave or anything, but I really have no interest in nude photos of the guy, nor access to any if such things even existed. I don't know why people thoguht it was him, because I did my best to make the placement of his head on the marble sculpture of the human form look unnatural, in a cut/paste manner.
For those that have issues or negative fixations with the uncensored version still, you can get a censored version below:

Not so Typical
October 31, 2004 | posted by Chris
I've had a few ideas swimming around in my head for DMB song-based imagery and wallpaper... and for this month, I chose to workout and design one for Typical Situation. I actually finished it at the end of September- THANKFULLY, because I have been extremely busy with school and freelance work since then. This way, it got done right, and in time for the beginning this month.
The wallpaper itself is very "graphic-arty" - as I'm sure you've noticed, I've strayed more and more from my "norm" for the last few- again, i think it's just confidence as an artist at last, to be able to experiment and try things. So far feedback has been interesting... my girlfriend and a few friends love it (some artists, some just DMB fans)- other folks seem to thing its decent at best... and some didn't like it at all. So, I'm interested to get feedback from you :).
Pay For What You Get
October 1, 2004 | posted by Chris
The wallpaper of the month for 2004 is based on the lyrics of "pay for what you get". Continuing with a trend of wallpapers that are... "a little different," I'm hopeing that everyone will enjoy this, too. To me, it doesn't stand out as clearly/obviously "DMB" as some of my other pieces do... perhaps because the lyrics are not as strong in terms of imagery? Regardless, it came out decent enough visually, on its own- the colors and feel are perfect for autum, so at the very least I'm hoping it will be enjoyed for that ;).
2004 Coverart & Stomps: Update
September 4, 2004 | posted by Chris
After receiving numerous emails and private messages from people about this, I thought I'd make a general news post- for those interested, I do plan on completing coverart and stomps for every show this tour. Unfortunately, with a design job, clients, my final year of school starting shortly, etc. - I have been delayed in getting them done. I assure you though, I will get caught up ASAP. As I am posting this, I have done artwork for all summer shows (including Dave Matthews & Friends @ Bonnaroo) up through 7.13.04- Darien Lake.
You can track my progress on this tour's art on my 2004 Coverart thread in our graphics & artwork forum. The thread is updated everytime I finish a show, and has links to all high-resolution .zip files of the art! If you still have questions, please PM or email me.
Wallpaper of the Month: September
August 30, 2004 | posted by Chris
It isn't often that I'm actually happy with my work, being an overly self-critical perfectionist- but lately I've been proud to put my name on some of the DMB coverart and imagery I've been creating... this wallpaper is one such piece.
More graphic than photographic, the collage sort of just flowed out of me while listening to an audience recording from the tour. You'll notice my own photos from this tour, as well as some from the official road page- and the quotes throughout reflect both some of the songs played this tour, and the great vibe at the shows!
Enjoy and feel free to let me know what you think!
What you see is human...
August 1, 2004 | posted by Chris
August's wallpaper is something I've had in my head for a long time, and it came out more or less as I imagined it. Originally I was thinking of filling the pupil of the eye with a tv and a depiction of a minaret and war-like flames around it... but when I actually got to designing it, this is how it worked out.
Another slightly different design than most of you are used to seeing from me... but variety is good, right? Anyway, enjoy and feel free to let me know what you think!
